Building a scalable design system for a B2B music promotion platform

S. is a B2B SaaS platform built for the US music industry, helping artists, producers, and labels promote music releases to radio stations.

The project started from an early prototype and required building a complete product experience from the ground up. Our team partnered with the client to transform the initial concept into a scalable platform with a consistent design language, reusable UI foundations, and a product-ready design system.

Challenge

The platform required a scalable interface capable of supporting complex analytics while remaining intuitive for everyday use.

Since the project began at an early stage, every design decision had to consider long-term product growth. Rather than designing isolated screens, we focused on creating reusable patterns, scalable components, and a solid design foundation that could evolve alongside the product.

Creating a distinct visual language

Instead of relying on generic digital palettes, we developed a unique color system inspired by Montana 94 spray paint colors.

The physical palette was carefully translated into a digital environment and became the foundation of the product's visual identity. Every color was intentionally selected, named, and assigned a clear role within the design system, resulting in a recognizable and consistent interface.

Solving data visualization challenges

Analytics played a central role in the platform, making data visualization one of the project's biggest UX challenges.

To improve readability across dashboards, we created a dedicated color sequence strategy that reduced repeated colors between chart series and maintained clear visual distinction even when displaying large datasets.

This approach improved chart clarity while ensuring consistency across the entire product.

Building a scalable Design System

The design system was created to support both product growth and efficient collaboration with development.

At the time, design tooling offered far fewer capabilities than today, requiring careful planning of reusable components, documentation, naming conventions, and implementation guidelines.
This foundation allowed the product to scale without sacrificing consistency.

Design-to-Development collaboration

Close collaboration with the development team was a key part of the process.

Beyond delivering design files, we prepared implementation guidelines and conducted Visual QA to ensure the final product accurately reflected the intended design. Quality control covered not only pixel-perfect implementation but also typography, letter spacing, spacing rules, visual hierarchy, and consistency.

Outcome

Through close collaboration with the client, we transformed an early prototype into a scalable B2B SaaS product supported by a structured design system, consistent UX patterns, and a distinctive visual language.

The project demonstrates our approach to product design—building systems rather than isolated interfaces, solving complex UX challenges, and creating digital products that remain maintainable as they continue to grow.
